Care extends to the body, other living creatures, and resources on which people depend. These teachings and incidents concern moderation, cleanliness, illness, animal welfare, planting, and shared water and pasture.

Moderation, cleanliness, and care in illness

  • The Qur’an tells people to eat and drink without waste, and a reported teaching advises moderation rather than routine overfilling.

“O Children of Adam! Dress properly whenever you are at worship. Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful.” (Sūrat al-Aʿrāf 7:31), Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran1111236

  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told people not to enter a land where plague was occurring and not to flee a place after plague had broken out there.67

  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described health and free time as two blessings that people often fail to appreciate.

“There are two blessings in which many people are deceived: health and free time.” — Sahih al-Bukhari 641221343

  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that the earth itself could serve as a place of prayer and a means of purification, so worship was not confined to special buildings.

“The earth has been made for me a place of prayer and a means of purification.” — Sahih al-Bukhari 33521343

  • The Qur’an incorporates repeated washing into ordinary worship and frames these practices as purification rather than unnecessary burden.

“O believers! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of ˹full˺ impurity, then take a full bath. But if you are ill, on a journey, or have relieved yourselves, or have been intimate with your wives and cannot find water, then purify yourselves with clean earth by wiping your faces and hands. It is not Allah’s Will to burden you, but to purify you and complete His favour upon you, so perhaps you will be grateful.” (Sūrat al-Māʾidah 5:6), Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran1111236

Kindness to animals and protection from cruelty
